Blog 3

Well we have travelled over 5000kms in the first 13 days and our fuel bill is out of control with an average spend of $1.78/Litre. We have finally hit some warmer weather and these white pins are starting to see the light of day! The images in this blog are such a contrast from all the red rock of last weeks blog to the waterfalls and springs that this week held.

On the way to Mataranka we stopped for lunch at the iconic Daly Waters Pub. Definitely worth the stop, good tucker and an awesome vibe

Day 13 & 14 we stayed at the beautiful Bitter Springs at Mataranka. We had such a great day swimming in the springs and the kids had ALMOST as much fun as the adults riding the noodles down the springs. We had some underwater GOPRO fun and the kids learnt about how the thermal springs are heated from underground.

You really know you have been in outback Australia when you turn up to a caravan park and Matilda uses a toilet in a tin shed and comments on how great it is that the toilet had a seat, there is a basin, AND a mirror and better yet there is soap and it smells nice. KIDS!!

Talking about kids, Harry has been his usual socialite self, talking to every grey nomad he comes across. He wants to know where they have been, where they are going, whether they go for NSW or QLD in the origin and what they are having for dinner! Its an endearing quality and people embrace it.

Day 14 Mataranka to Berry Springs via Cutta Cutta caves. The kids got to see a ghost bat (only the 4th time they have been spotted in the last 3 months) and a brown tree snake just sitting on the ledge in one of the caves.

Day 15: Croc jumping cruise on Adelaide River. Harry had prime front row position, but when the 800kg croc made its way to the side of the boat, he happily sacrificed that front row seat for the back!! Matilda was happy with the front row seat as well as holding a python on her own. No fear this girl! We had a swim that arvo at Berry Springs.

Day 16 we headed into Darwin to check it out. The kids loved the wave pool. We had a picnic lunch and then headed to the famous Mindil Markets, got some awesome food and sat on the beach with the other thousand people doing the same thing watched the sunset.

Day 17 Berry Springs to Florence Falls Campground. Met up with the wards and swam in the gorgeous Florence Falls and Buley Rockpools.

Day 18: Brilliant day exploring Litchfield. A lot of the 4WD tracks were closed from cyclone damage but we still got to check out Tolmer Falls, Wangi Falls and did a 3.4km walk to the top of the Upper Cascade Falls (for Harry because he has a new found love and passion for bushwalking) .

Day 19: We drove from Litchfield back south to Katherine Gorge campground

Day 20: We did a half day canoeing tour on Katherine Gorge. It was the kids first time in a canoe and put it this way, I picked the right buddy to have in my canoe with her gymnastics muscles. She was an absolute machine! Paddled for the whole 3 hours and left me for dead. Harry loved it also but was more along for the ride! Spotted a 3M freshwater croc as well, they tell me the freshwater ones are friendly!

Well that’s a wrap fro blog/week 3. Heading west again now through Timber Creek to Lake Argyle, Slideshow and images below!! Check them out!
