Our trek from Timber Creek to Broome!
Day 21 & 22 Timber Creek to Lake Argyle. We spent 2 nights here and Lake Argyle is amazing! The caravan park has an infinity pool overlooking the gorgeous freshwater lake. We did a 4WD track up to a lookout for sunset, but it actually ended up raining and windy, as you will see from the pics!
The stars are next level out here. I had actually never seen a shooting star before this trip and I saw 3 in 10 minutes! Matilda picks out a ‘Matilda star’ each night, one that’s shining the brightest, its pretty sweet. Its the little things that you usually don’t get the time to stop and appreciate that have been amazing.
Day 23: Lake Argyle to El Questro. There was a bit of debate in the camp whether to do this part of the Gibb River Road. The road into El Questro was a little more off road then we would usually do with the van but word on the street was it was totally worth it.
AANNNDDD… it was!
Day 24 we spent the morning chilling in the 30 degree Zebedee Springs, had some 4WD fun in the deep creek crossing and headed to Emma Gorge. Later, there were more 4WD sunset expeditions up to Brankos lookout. Every part of this day was amazing.
The kids are all good in the car except for Matilda’s bottom! We are going to have to kick her out soon before she kills us. She thinks its amusing, what a lady!
El Questro was incredible but if you aren’t willing to walk to explore the area and do some pretty narley 4WDing to find the little gems of this place it would just seem like a big dust bowl. We could of spent another day exploring but we ran out of time and didn’t want to get behind on our trek over to Broome. Plus this bikini and joggers look that you have to rock to get to all the spots I don’t think will be coming into fashion anytime soon! Thanks for the sneaky shot luke, I hope you never hold it against me!
Day 25 El Questro to Spring creek
Day 26 Headed into explore the Bungle Bungles! 50 km on a windy dirt road was the first time car sickness hit Matilda in 4 weeks. We walked the Echidna Chasm and Cathedral Gorge, both incredible. We also got 180kms under our belt that night!
Day 27 We stayed at Mary pool campground on our way to the west coast. Fuel stop at Fitzroy Crossing… and Chris getting laughed at when he asked for a bottle shop in Fitzroy Crossing!
Its a bit of a sore subject. Chris has had a non intentional ‘dry beer week’ this week. Kununurra has no bottle shops open on a sunday and every other little towns bottle shops don’t open until 2pm and we weren’t hanging around for the rush at opening time! First world problems hey!
Well week 4 didn’t disappoint, we are all still waiting for the destination that doesn’t blow us away. I am ALMOST too scared to write this but we have noticed this week the kids becoming even closer than what they already are. They are playing together like champs, learning from each other and its so nice to watch them grow in front of your eyes (matilda is still the boss of course).
For those of you who are interested in the how the budget is going if you are interested in doing a similar trip.
Total spend so far for 4 weeks is $7100. This is $3090 in Fuel (with an average fuel cost of $1.69/L), $864 for accommodation cost (average $30/night…7 nights freecamp, 4 nights national parks, 17 nights powered/unpowered caravan parks). The rest is groceries, tours, fun stuff and general repairs etc. This is a spend of $1700 per week. Just for those who might be interested. Yes Chris’ spreadsheet is next level.
Next weeks blog will be Cable Beach Broome and the start of our adventure down the west coast!

Another wonderful week! Was that a river bed or very wet road you were driving along? Did you just drive the highway to Broome? Guess so as Gibb River road would have taken longer I think. We stayed at Cable Beach resort in Broome and just loved it! Had a failed flight to Fitzroy Crossing. Long story. So flew up to Cape Leveque and Horizontal Falls. Fantastic! Just loving sharing your adventures! Loving the drone! Enjoy WA precious! Xx

Hey guys,
Your trip still looks amazing. Hope that water wasn’t too cold! Wish we got to dive and swim in the water with you. The water looks so crystal clear! We hope you’ve enjoyed the nice hot weather, and the beautiful sunsets. It’s freezing cold here, raining lots with some inside wet-weather lunches. We hope you didn’t get water through your car as you were crossing those rivers. We love watching all of the videos that you post, it makes us super jealous. We did like that you were having some ‘independent reading time’ just like we have been doing at school. You’re super lucky and 4W wishes they have an extended holiday too, you should’ve invited a friend or two (or Miss Wingrove).
It’s a big birthday week in 4W, with Eleanor, Callum, Henry and Dominique celebrating this week too.
We wish you the most happiest of birthdays for tomorrow.
What have you got planned for your big day?
Love 4W 🙂

Hi 4W,
Happy birthday to Eleanor,Callum, Henry and Dominique as well! We are leaving barn hill and will be arriving at eighty mile beach for my birthday.
The water is a bit cold! And there have been freshwater crocodiles where we have been swimming but they are the friendly ones!
No we didn’t get water in the car but my sister was scared when we were 4WDing.
I rode some camels last Friday in Broome.
I am missing 4W lots and lots. I have been doing school work and reading lots of new books I have bought with my own money on Australian animals.
Love harry xoxoxoxox thanks for writing I love it!
