Blog 5/Week 5

Day 28,29 & 30..Well we made it to the west coast!!
And 2 days ahead of schedule so we decided to stay 3 nights at cable beach.
Loved this place, such a nice vibe. We arrived Thursday afternoon and the markets were on at town beach that night so we had one excited little girl (don’t know who she got her love of shopping from?)
Friday morning we checked out Broome (trying to find a bday present for Harry without much luck) and had a camel ride in the afternoon which was one of the things the kids have been talking about for a long time. Clancy and Jerry behaved themselves and the kids had a great time riding them and learning about how they are cared for, Clancy and Jerry’s backgrounds and facts about camels.
Sunset bar to view this famous cable beach sunset that didn’t disappoint.
Saturday it was family day at Broome races! Great day for the adults and lots of activities for the kids. The race course was in an epic spot on gantheaume point surrounded by the red dust and the blue of the ocean. No luck on the punt though!!
Back to the sunset bar for sunset, just because…
Day 31 & 32 we start our way south. Sneaky pedicure in Broome with an Australian outback campfoot rating of about 7/10. First stop Barn Hill Station. We got a spot right on the cliff overlooking the ocean. Lots of rules at this place though that we weren’t used to. No driving on the beach, no fires, no drones and no roof on the shower block (I think that may be one reason for the no drone rule!) . Rules rules rules!! I was also surprised as I really thought it would be a tad warmer this far north. Don’t get me wrong still beach days, but mornings and arvos are jumper and trackie weather!! The kids spent the afternoons fishing, Harry snapped his rod, unfortunately not on that big fish that was supposed to be for dinner, so lamb rack it was! The stand up paddle board also got its first run on the trip at Barn Hill.
Barn Hill was another picturesque place where the red dirt meets the ocean and the colours and scenery are gorgeous, windy though with lots of dust and prickles!
Ok so this paragraph almost didn’t make it to the blog but nic’s blonde calls have hit an all time high. There was a notification board at barn hill warning patrons about the drop bears in the area, describing their eating habits, their size, their habitat and what to look out for etc.. and Nic says ‘I thought drop bears were a gee up and they weren’t real?’ yeah wow they got me didn’t they. And YES I am educating the kids for 4 months.
Day 33 & 34 we stayed at eighty mile beach caravan park. Absolutely gorgeous spot and grass!! A bit of grass!! Well what they call grassed areas over here. Obviously didn’t stack up to the lawn competitions going on in our street back at Eleebana but we were excited all the same.
This week the afternoons were spent on the beach watching the sunsets with a few beers, fishing rods, cricket stumps, trashy magazines, sunburnt butts, snags (the meat kind as well as the fishing kind) and dolphins.
Awesome way to spend Harry’s big 10th bday (10!! Really??!!!)
His cake was brownies in the Webber and we set up balloons and streamers across the awning.
Day 35 we head south to Cape Keraudren. Got another awesome site on the cape overlooking the ocean and spotted some turtles as soon as we got here. The tides are crazy here. They are 6 metre tides and the difference in the landscapes from high tide to low tide is crazy! Adventurous walk at low tide exploring the coral, crabs and the octopuses. One particular octopus that I accidentally stood on and it decided to wrap around my leg, and it took me doing a pretty non-experienced karate kick to get it off, as well as  girly scream!
We also scored a full moon here with the perfect location to view the ‘stairway to the moon’!
Next blog will be the much anticipated Karijini!!
