Blog 8/ Week 8

Day 50: Station stay in between Exmouth and Coral Bay. Bullara Station! What a quirky little working station. So much work has gone into all of the little details. Stoked to be able to have a fire again and have a crack at cooking some damper. Check out the pics of this one. Matilda met a little friend from Perth and her diary entry read ‘a girl to play with after being surrounded by boys, yay!’
Day 51: sore throats and tonsillitis have hit the butler camp. Don’t want to let it stop us doing anything so power on it is.
Day 52 & 53: Coral Bay!! Wow 40-50 minutes travel between our next few stays, this is amazing! Less time in the car and more time exploring.
The weather wasn’t amazing. Well ok it was 20 degrees and a little windy. I heard Newcastle got down to 2 degrees and in the minuses in some parts so we shouldn’t complain. So when there is a bakery, a pub and a supermarket in a town what do you do. Stock up on passion fruit coconut slice and go to the pub for the afternoon.
We heard 5 fingers reef was a great little snorkelling and fishing spot so we took it on. The sand was soft and the tide was on its way in. We had a couple of goes getting off the beach in a particular spot with no luck, so we assessed the situation (calmly), let the tyres down further to 15, went a slightly different route and success! It was still a reason to pull straight over once we were out of the soft sand and crack open a can of furphy after the blood pressure was a little higher than usual mid morning😂😳.
It was totally worth it, we got the drone up and the footage is awesome (says the photographer, not the driver).
Day 54: Just when we thought we couldn’t top the campsite at Osprey Bay we arrive at Warroora Station. We snagged a site right on the sand about 20m from the water. Spent the afternoon exploring the 50km incredible coastline that is Waroora Station. Nic had a drive (look out, first time behind the wheel in 2 months) and chris was now the photographer. He reckons it’s the best drone footage to date.
Last week at Cape Range Chris stood on a sea urchant in the surf. For the last 5 days he has been pulling spikes out of the bottom of his foot. Oh and havnt we heard about it! We found one of the little buggers on the beach today, so I took a photo for his records.
Day 55: A relaxing day around camp. We set up some sand putt putt with a tin of spaghetti as the hole and shells as our obstacles. As to be expected, we ended up with a scorecard, different courses and a full competitive nature with Nic coming through with the goods with a Birdie on a par 6. We also found a nice little spot for some photos so I chucked some decent clothes on the fam, a little bit of dry shampoo in the hair and did a quick little mini family shot. Love them x. Matilda is honestly growing up in front of our eyes into a young lady on this trip.
Day 56: Waroora to Quobba blowholes. Stayed at Quobba blowholes campground. Loving the nightly campfires and the swell for the blowhole viewing was insane.
Day 57: Massive day! Early start and we headed 1 hour into Carnarvon to get the car serviced. They smashed it out in 1 1/2 hours for us so it gave us time to head up to red bluff which we had so many recommendations on, so we are glad we had time to see it. Pretty amazing landscape and some awesome waves with heaps of surfers. Fair to say from previous blogs chris and I didn’t hit the waves so we admired the skills from the hill overlooking the water with snag sandwiches.
Then, on the road again to get a few kms under our belt for the next day. We stayed in a free camp on the way to Shark Bay. We are a little worried we don’t have enough time to see everything we want to see before we get to Perth in 6 days, would LOVE another week on the ay to Perth and to hold onto the warmer weather!!
Next blog Shark bay, Monkey Mia and Kalbarri, Mullewa, Mingenew, Milligan Island. (And jumpers!)
