I am at the point now where I’m starting to think about work, the things that need to be done the week we get home. But then on the other hand if you were leaving home for 4 weeks holiday it would be incredible! First world problems hey!!
Day 86: Lucky Bay/ Cape Le Grand National Park. Wow!!!! Driving over the hill into Lucky Bay and the sun was shining and the water was the most beautiful light aqua colour.
Day 87: Just after we woke up, we were cooking pancakes and spotted a few Southern Right Whales just outside the caravan in the bay! Still not taking these amazing creatures for granted no matter the numbers we have seen.
After the bluff knoll peak defeated us only a few days ago, we were ready for the next challenge. With zero wind, today was the day for the class 5 Frenchman’s peak walk. We made it to the top! The most incredible views with my favourite nature’s window of the trip. Check out the pics of this one. Obviously one happy little human by the name of Harry. The only scary thing about this hike was getting to the top and the wildflowers buzzing with hundreds of bees and chris’ epipen back in the caravan 🙄.
It is still chilly here but we are hoping the reports are right that it’s meant to warm up in the next few days. We have a ripper site at Lucky Bay campground and it’s definitely up there with the favourite campgrounds of the trip. Kangaroos also sharing our site which the kids are loving. We met another lovely family camped at lucky bay with more than just a few vinos had that night!
Day 88: We explored the surrounds of lucky bay. Headed to the highly recommended Condingup tavern for a burger, pint and chips for lunch and then had a look at Wharton beach.
Day 89: Well not quite the 22 degrees that was predicted. But we had already talked ourselves into this being the pick of the days to get into the water.
We walked the 4km over to the gorgeous Thistle Cove to start the morning, then headed down for some 4WDing on the beach up to the north end of Lucky Bay beach. Harry was straight in the surf before the car had even stopped moving I think! Followed closely by chris, and then I entered pretty confident of catching a wave after my last efforts at Exmouth. However no luck, and we didn’t go without a few injuries this day. I landed on my butt on the sand. The sand is ridiculously white and fine and extremely hard. Kerry hurt her ankle and Luke hurt his heal. And bucket loads of the stacks were caught on camera! We eased the pain with a few ginger beers on the beach.
Day 90: A little worse for wear we head back into Esperance for 1 night to prepare groceries, water and gas for the Nullarbor!
Day 91: 460km day to get to Taylor’s Maze Camp. Great little free camp, campfire with the Wards and food prep night to cook up our veggies and food before we cross the WA/SA border tomorrow.
Day 92: We have seen a few incredible photos along the cliffs of the Nullarbor so we set out to make it to one of these camps today. We set off early and stopped at a roadhouse and did an omelette cook up. It’s so good being able to do things like this in the caravan. There were a few little quirky points of interest along the Nullarbor road…. Teacup tree, undie tree, bra tree, shoe tree etc. For the record we kept all of our underwear firmly on.
Funny moment of the day: We tried to knock over some school work in the car, one of Matilda’s questions. Name 6 things you can measure in millilitres. Her number one answer ‘wine tasting cup’ 🙄🤭.
It ended up a 550km day and just when you think the landscape can’t get any better we arrive at Bunda Cliffs! Holy wow! Bit windy but amazing! Actually, a bit windy is an understatement. We had our heart set on camping here. We were taking some sunset photos and whales are so close the the cliffs. Boom! Worth it already. The photos of the van near the cliff…. we may or may not of moved the van back from the edge for the night to sleep. I know the photos suggest other wise, haha. And it was still rocking all night…… FROM THE WIND! Enjoy our adventures of Lucky Bay and the Nullarbor.
