Blog 12/ Week 12

Day 80: wow day 80!! We have been so undecided what to do with our time this week. I had a moment of ‘I need a rest for a couple of days’. But we bit the bullet and headed north. Today we did the Castle Rock Granite Skywalk. Didn’t take me long when I saw the amazing landscapes to get my mojo back. A moderate 4.4km hike with the last little bit being a class 5. Sign read ‘if you are agile and capable of pulling yourself up by your arms and legs over and under large rocks, and up a vertical 7m ladder, you can access the granite skywalk at the summit of castle rock’ (dad, another one for you). They forgot to add this 7m ladder that leads to the observation platform clings to the side of a granite peak!! Anyhoo, it was unbelievable!

Day 81: The question on everyone’s lips, to make the trek to wave rock or not!!! I bought a new idea on July 23rd and havnt opened the first page! I know this is a total first world problem and none of you feel sorry for me but it gives you an idea of how much we are trying to still find the nice balance between seeing everything and having ‘some’ chillax time!

Day 82: We decided to attempt ‘bluff knoll’ . The highest point in south WA, 1100 metres above sea level. There has been snow over the peaks of this mountain over the last week and it has been all over the news. Well we attempted it, tough hike and we got 2 out of the 3km up and made the decision to eat our pride and enjoy the view (well kind of) from that point. The wind was threatening the blow the kids off the side of the cliff (literally!)
Harry was obviously disappointed with his effort, being a national bushwalker champion and all. We had to try and explain to him safety first!! In this blog I have included the excitement and lead up to bluff knoll as if it was going to be completed because it’s all part of the story right? Well the views from the carpark were even worth the trip! This particular night we found an awesome freecamp on the way to wave rock at a place called ‘jam patch’ Annnd the Milky Way and stars have made a comeback again! Love it!
Day 83: Trek to ‘Wave Rock’. A big rock that looks like a wave… yep a big rock that looks like wave. That’s about it, but hey we have done it. On another note Hyden bakery’s giant lamingtons, citrus tarts and pies were top notch. The ‘Hippos yawn’ rock was also pretty cool. Then we did the 4 hours drive from Wave Rock back down to the coast to Bremer Bay.

Day 84: Exploring the Bremer Bay region.
What a whale watching spot!! Southern Right Whale mums and bubs galore so close to shore!!! Kids were squealing with excitement, literally! It was an easy decision what to do their informative text animal task on this week! There is some awesome drone footage in the slide show of these beautiful creatures. Side note: we stayed 100m up as per the regulations and some of these videos are cropped and edited in in photoshop.

Day 85: Bremer Bay to Esperance (with a stop to the Ravensthorpe lolly shop)
Esperance: what do I say about Esperance, it is such an incredibly talked about bucket list item for a lot of the people you talk to. For us the coastline was gorgeous and the beaches and clifflines were amazing but the town we just had in our head it would be a little different to what we found.
We spent 1 night, stocked up on groceries and moved along to lucky bay.

Enjoy the pics of this week! We are just about to hit the Nullarbor and by the time the next blog goes up we will be back on the east side of aus!! Thanks so much to everyone who is following us along on our travels, the beautiful comments and well wishes have blown us away.
